Kick Ass And Chew Bubble Gum by SquirrelShaver Kick Ass And Chew Bubble Gum by SquirrelShaver
Here's is a cover I drew a few months back but the actual comic book doesn't come out until March 2013 so for once I'm not behind on my game. ;)

This is a wrap-around cover I did for my buddy Steven and his book "Zombies Vs. Cheerleaders". The series is being re-booted through a new publisher (3 Finger Prints)and I was generously asked to do this image for the cover to issue #1 which I was completely humbled by. This little underground the comic book concept surely surely helped inspire similar properties like Sony's "Lollipop Chainsaw" and Disney's (ironically titled) "Cheerleaders Vs. Zombies" horror spoof.

This is great. Love the angle and detail. What kind of pencils do you use when drawing?

This turned out very dynamic! Love how you handled your details and maintained the depth to it without over doing the detailing. :XD: And the colorist handled your pencils well! (I dressed the covers). You definitely have nice clean pencils, whether straight to colors or potential inks.

You taped two bigger sheets of paper?

Nice, gives a lot of room to add detail correct?

Also how big is this?

Yep, it's a double page spread so it needed to cover both sizes of a book. The total size is 22" wide x 17" tall.

Sweet, so you would agree that if you were giving a size to a page it will determine how much detail is needed?

Pretty much. The larger canvas makes room for lots of potential for detail so if you're given the opportunity I normally take advantage of it. :)

Sweet, but (if a large image) how do you know what detail to add?

Researching about is an option correct?

It's a matter of personal taste mixed with artistic judgment. Too much detail can make the image look crowded and hard to focus. Your eye needs "breaking points" to carry out the composition. For instance in this image there's a fair amount of detail but it's all surrounding the part where I really want you to be looking: The girl kicking and the top half of the zombie getting kicked. There's minimal detail on the girl who stretches across the image and the main zombie torso. That creates a contrast to the busy background which brings the girl forward so everything else is kind of secondary and is meant to be noticed afterwords.

Ahhh, i see. keep the people focused on what's going on but also provide a background distraction in order to make in confutable and enjoyable in saying, "Hay this is damn good, very good."

This is separate from Lollipop Chainsaw, but a similar idea. This comic is pretty much where Lollipop got their idea from.
